FHA/GSE Legislation
Since late last week, the Senate has been considering a housing bill that includes FHA reform (with permanent loan limits to 110% of local area median home price, capped at $625,500), GSE reform (with permanent loan limits to 100% of local area median home price, capped at $625,500), FHA foreclosure rescue, development of a National Affordable Housing Trust Fund, and an $8000 Homebuyer Tax Credit. The bill has stalled due to a procedural vote in the Senate. Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid (D-NV), has indicated that there will be no further action on the legislation until July 8 at the very earliest. Meanwhile, the House is still arguing for NAR-supported higher loan limits and several other amendments that the Senate has balked at. If this sounds confusing to you, that’s because it is. If you’d like more information, please feel free to contact Megan Booth at mbooth@realtors.org or 202-383-1222. For information about the tax provisions in the bill, please contact Linda Goold at lgoold@realtors.org or 202-383-1083.
What does all this activity mean for NAR’s current Call for Action (CFA)? The CFA will remain live through the at least the 4th of July recess. That means there’s still time to take action. Because of the impasse, it’s more important now than ever to get those letters up to the Senate. Take action today! YOU Are the REALTOR® Party!
